November 29 – BE the Church!

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:32 pm by nvprojectcompass

We’re doing it again… We’re canceling our normal church service to go out into our community and be a light. Our next Service Sunday is November 29 (the Sunday after Thanksgiving).

We’re partnering with Freedom House to provide “Giving Bags” with necessity items for Richmond’s working poor. We’re using Sunday, November 29 to purchase items for these bags AND perform random acts of kindness while we’re out gathering the bag items.

November 29 Timeline:
10:00  Meet at TCMS for worship, prayer and communion
10:30  KV stays at TCMS to rehearse the Christmas Show. Everyone else goes out to serve!
12:00   Return to TCMS to drop off bags and share lunch

Things to Know:
- Bring a dish to share for the church lunch. Your food item will be stored at TCMS from 10 til we eat around 12.
- Bring coupons for toiletries to maximize items we can buy for Giving Bags.
- Think about how you want to use your time to serve others on the 29th.

What is Freedom House?
Freedom House provides food and shelter to Richmond’s homeless and working poor population. Even more importantly, they work to provide the life skills and support needed to overcome the obstacles that lead to homelessness. Freedom House is collecting “Giving Bags” to provide the homeless and working poor with necessity items. Bags will be distributed at their annual Christmas Day dinner. Posted in Uncategorized at 3:16 pm by nvprojectcompass

Our church families will meet at Providence Elementary School on Sunday, October 25 at 2:00 for our first ever Walk-A-Thon!

We’ll be walking for pledge donations which will sponsor weekend backpack lunches for children who don’t have food on the weekends. In th epast, a couple of generous teachers at Providence Elementary School have been proviging food for these students to take home. Now, with our help, there will be a funded program to ensure that these children have access to the healthy food they need.

Pledge money will be gathered by our church families October 4-25. There will be prizes for walkers and a free Chipotle dinner for all who participate. Most importantly, the kids who walk will have hearts filled with love in serving.

Please come and help make a difference in the lives of these children.

Visit Monroe Park

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:09 pm by nvprojectcompass

Spend an afternoon with us in Richmond’s Monroe Park. We will provide meals and other necessities to the homeless. Most importantly, we’ll be building relationships… talking, listening and providing encouragment.

There are 2 ways to get involved. First, bring personal items (see list below) to church now through September 6. Second, join us on our trip to Monroe Park Saturday, September 12 to distribute these items.

Items Needed:

Socks, Underwear, Blankets, Toiletries, Personal Hygeine Items, etc.
We’ve had many groups from NV go down to Monroe Park over the last year or two… were you involved in one of those trips? Tell everyone what it meant to you!

Check Out the Chesterfield County Youth Home

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:07 pm by nvprojectcompass

We have “adopted” the Chesterfield County youth home for the month of September. This home exists as a place for youth ages 12-17 who have been referred by the court program. They support teens and their families who need guidance in positive social behaviors and goal identification for future success in the home and the community.

There are many needs that we have committed to filling at the home… Painting doors, cleaning carpets, donating new videos, etc. Interested in more information? Let us know and we’ll egt you a full list of needs and ways to get involved.
Most of the needs are “minor” in terms of their time commitment… but they are significant in the eyes of the home’s staff and residents!
